I stand and move
outrageous
the tip of my tongue like a lost cow
the jewel between my breasts sparkling testament
I stand and move on soft feet
raid cabinets
pass gas
turn my shirt inside out
deny everything
I stand and move through a black house
sleeping standing up
fever has me in its arms
I wish I could stand and move in the dark
move from this bed to the perfect
one
where perfect arms fold around me
brush sweaty bangs off
my forehead
and I disappear
all the pain leaking out like sweat
outrageous
I am 30 years old.
I am busted up broken
unacceptable
I've run out of beds
I'm hungry,
nothing to eat

5pm Procrastination Poem
art days are a slow inch in which I am here to do just one thing and do everything else.
the sun sets and I've barely begun- But small tasks are tasks done tooQ
Mierle whispers: it's maintainence, Rachel.
and she's right- but the truth overlaps itself in contradiction:
Rachel whispers: it's fear, Rachel.
Not Being Stressed looks like laughing, but not being done yet looks like stress.
I have finished my poem for the day
there are no more excuses
it's time to begin.

Winter
the spring signs of completion such an annual relief,
that it as if- never again! as if winter is through.
Then that one day when just a few leaves fall,
and we remember it's coming.
then that one day the clocks turn and we realize it is already here.
graciously the darkness does not corrolate complete with the cold
on these days, light streams in in spite of harshness.
The warmth from the space heater so much warmer for the cold yearning.
This is what we remember fondly, the joy against sadness, love against struggle, this time of year.
that it as if- never again! as if winter is through.
Then that one day when just a few leaves fall,
and we remember it's coming.

PEPPERMINT & SWEAT
to be loveless,
just give me
a ginger
carbonation
to line my guts,
a dust-free
life,
a clean, clear tremolo
and nothing will
ever
smell like it
has lost the
fight
has lost the
right
to live
again

Sciatica
A stretch caught up and so many wires to
untangle anyway and what an inane task,
now shouldn't something else want
to be ticked off instead anyway, so off with you, back,
and off with me,
interesting and unsettling new pain
following me down the subway steps,
spine the snake,
petrified on the barbwire fence.
untangle anyway and what an inane task,
now shouldn't something else want
to be ticked off instead anyway, so off with you, back,
and off with me,
interesting and unsettling new pain
following me down the subway steps,
spine the snake,
petrified on the barbwire fence.
Energy glows at the lips
the reed in your teeth
is a lullaby to ears tender like kiwis
a pygmalian yodel
dips below the horizon
of descending strip malls
and your lips
glow in memory
of summer blueberries

of descending strip malls
and your lips
